Welcome to Shoreview, Minnesota

Shoreview

The first white settler on the land that makes up today's Shoreview was Socrates A. Thompson. Thompson came to Shoreview from St. Paul looking for a good place to farm. He decided upon the east shores of Turtle Lake. The area eventually became a popular place to farm - as he was joined by settlers from Germany, Ireland, Poland, Switzerland and England, as well as people from other areas of the United States.

Shoreview City Hall

In 1941, the United States Government opened the Army Arsenal plant on the west side of Shoreview, bringing many workers to the area. This expanse of residential property marked Shoreview's development into a Twin Cities suburb. Shoreview officially became a city on January 1, 1974.

Today, Shoreview is approximately 95% developed. Residents enjoy a close proximity to the Twin Cities metro areas, as well as a strong sense of community within their own borders. In 1990, Shoreview Commons was opened (pictured above), which holds the city hall, library and Community Center.

In addition, Shoreview is well known for its 70,000 square foot Community Center - which features a large swimming pool, whirlpool, 3-story water slide, indoor water park, gymnasium, fitness equipment, indoor running track, meeting rooms and a banquet facility.

Ramsey County has reserved vital wetlands as "open space," protected from development. It's not uncommon to see a bald eagle or red-tailed hawk circling overhead. Shoreview has made the move into the 21st century while preserving its natural heritage.
